Each year, Red Earth Gardens hosts their annual spring garden startup. This allows local community members to get a hands-on learning experience about the different types of plants grown in our gardens. We encourage participants to share the knowledge they learned and apply it to their own gardens, in becoming a self-sustainable community. Also have worked and contributed to many fellow farmers and organizations, local and notionally. From the local Navajo Chapter Houses (Local town halls), to OLCERI of South Dakota - Oglala Lakota Nation, and east coast Oneida Nation. At times finding ourselves in public school classrooms across Navajo land too. Although we enjoy our outreach to different settings, one of our focuses is to eventually have these entities come to us here at our demonstration site in the near future.
" Felix Earle has created a terrific resource for the community with Red Earth Gardens, demonstrating sustainable, successful approaches to growing food in a short-season, high desert climate. From hands-on workshops to harvest festivals. Felix encourages growers of all ages to "dig in", have fun and share the knowledge learned with others."
-Carole Palmer, COPE Program/ Senior Specialist - Food Systems
"Mr. Felix Earle is our Native Garden Consultant for our Diabetes Garden here at Sage Memorial Diabetes Program. Mr. Earle started as our resident gardener at the beginning of this summer. Through his vast knowledge of native plants and gardening our DM Garden has thrived! He takes the time to explain the process of his work and to educate our Wellness Staff on the proper care of our crops. He is very professional, and we appreciate all his time and dedication to our DM Garden." - Hollie Dawes, Wellness Center Supervisor
